Renting a Car to the Sibayak Hot Springs from Medan
A soak in the sulphur hot springs at the foot of Mount Sibayak is perfect after a long drive. Car rental tips, when to visit and what to bring.
At the foot of Mount Sibayak there is a row of natural hot spring pools fed by sulphur sources. The area, often called Sidebuk-debuk, is a favourite place for Medan residents to unwind at the weekend.
Access by car
The hot springs are about 15–20 minutes from central Berastagi. The total drive from Medan is about 2.5 hours. The road to the pools is fairly good, but some sections narrow, so a driver who knows the area is a real help.
Best time to visit
- Evening: the warmest atmosphere — the steam feels wonderful in the cold air.
- Weekdays: the pools are quieter than at weekends.
What to bring
- A change of clothes and a towel
- Sandals, as the pool area is slippery
- Plastic bags for wet clothes to keep the car seats dry
- Drinking water to avoid dehydration after soaking
Car rental advice
If you visit in the evening, choose a package with a driver so you do not have to drive home tired on foggy roads. For a family of 6–7, an Avanza or BR-V is enough. Many customers combine this visit with a morning hike up Sibayak.
